Book Review: The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas

The American Roommate Experiment book cover by Elena Armas

I got this book as a birthday gift from my sister, and it immediately became special to me because it's my first physical book ever. Honestly, it was one of the best gifts I’ve received, and I started reading it whenever I found a spare moment in college.

Although it continues the world of The Spanish Love Deception, it works perfectly well as a standalone.

The story begins with Rosie, our FL, temporarily staying at her friend Lina’s apartment because of issues in her own. That’s where she meets her childhood crush Lucas, who also happens to be her best friend’s cousin—the guy she has been quietly stalking online for years. Their first interaction starts with a misunderstanding, but they end up becoming roommates.

Rosie has no idea what she’s getting into by sharing a house with the one man she’s always wanted. And Lucas… this effortlessly charming, Spanish, shameless flirt does not make it easy for her. His teasing is literally to live for.

Meanwhile, Rosie quit her job to pursue writing full-time. Her debut novel—published under an alias—unexpectedly became a hit, but now she’s stuck in a terrible writing slump with a looming deadline. To help her get inspired again, Lina suggests something dangerous: a fa
ke-dating plan
to spark creativity for her romance book.

And of course… fake dating rarely stays fake.

Rosie knows she’s risking her heart, especially when Lucas is the kind of man who cooks, flirts in Spanish, and reassures her every time she doubts herself. But Lucas also carries his own past—the kind that makes him hesitate to date anyone seriously.

After rain-soaked confessions, heartbreaks, and one grand gesture that absolutely melts you, Rosie and Lucas finally get their happy ending.

This book felt warm, comforting, and genuinely nice. I kept giggling and kicking my feet in the air every time Lucas opened his mouth. If you want a soft, cozy, fake-dating romance that’s filled with charm, chemistry, and heart, this one is definitely worth picking up.
